The most important first step

On Confession

For many returning Catholics, Confession feels like the highest hurdle. It shouldn't. The priest has heard everything. He is there to help you, not judge you.

"It doesn't matter how long you've been away. What matters is that you came back."

Questions we hear every day

You Are Not the First to Wonder

Am I still Catholic if I haven't been to Mass in years?

Yes. Baptism into the Catholic faith is permanent. No matter how long you've been away, you are still Catholic — and you are welcome back.

Can I receive Communion if I've been away?

If you have unconfessed mortal sins, the Church asks that you go to Confession first. That's it. Confession is a fresh start, not a punishment.

I don't remember how to go to Confession.

That's more common than you think. Our Confession guide walks you through exactly what to say and what to expect — step by step.

Can I get married in a Catholic church if my partner isn't Catholic?

Yes, in most cases. This is called an interfaith marriage and it happens all the time. Our marriage guide explains everything.
